Happy “Thank-God-It’s-No-Longer-Breast-Cancer-Awareness-Month” Day

For one month, I’ve been overwhelmed with pink. Pink ribbons, pink M&Ms, pink everything. Breast Cancer Awareness Month rivals Black History Month as the most over-hyped, over-promoted holiday month ever.

Don’t get me wrong. I fully support the breast. I would hate to see anything bad, especially cancer, happen to any breast out there. It’s just that this whole October pink fiesta has become more of a fad than anything else. All the girls do some sort of Facebook group or general widespread promotion to raise money just because its the cool thing to do. Then they make the guys wear pink ribbons, or the new, high-tech pink ribbon pins and attend their functions. And of course, we do it, because its a rare time when girls actually approach us wanting our involvement in something. We’re not used to that. So either by being honored, dumbstruck, or desperate, we comply.

What if guys had an equivalent month? Turns out, we do. I did some quick Googling and found out that men, do indeed, have their own Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, which is in September. I find it funny that it takes place in September because what time do men become most aware of Prostate Month? Well, on Thank-God-It’s-No-Longer-Breast-Cancer-Awareness-Month Day, of course. At this time, it’s a full 10 months before September rolls around, and by then, we will have completely forgotten all about it. That allows Breast Cancer Awareness to once again, take all the glory.

No doubt this whole scheme was plotted by a female. Touche’, worthy adversary. Touche’.
